Whiskey Myers

Firewater is a platinum-certified breakthrough: Leroy produced and performed across the record, helping establish Whiskey Myers as a national Southern-rock and Texas-country force.

Read the Firewater story

Leroy produced the entire album while contributing guitar, pedal steel, organ, percussion, vocals, and additional instrumentation. That work helped shape the record’s signature blend of Southern rock, country, and blues.

Beyond the production role, he co-wrote “Ballad of a Southern Man,” “Turn It Up,” and “How Far.”

Released in 2011, Firewater helped move Whiskey Myers from the Texas regional circuit to national recognition. “Ballad of a Southern Man,” “Broken Window Serenade,” and “Virginia” became enduring fan favorites; the album’s legacy continued to build over the following decade, ultimately earning RIAA Platinum certification in the United States.

Dolly Parton to Leroy Powell

“That was the compliment Dolly gave me that day. That made my whole year. What an amazing session at RCA Studio A. We were working on Barry Gibb’s Greenfields record. We really filled the room up with some heavy hitters that day.”

“Dolly made a point to introduce herself to every single person in the room, and was giving out hugs at the end of the session. I came in for the side hug. I didn’t know what else to do. I was honored to get to meet her and play some music with her for a bit.”
